The Bermagui Cellars Maiden Plate runs at Sapphire Coast over 1000 metres on Good track on fine conditions at 2:15 pm AEDT. Camden Cove is the shortest in the win market ahead of Dartanu and Force Of Nature. This is a weak maiden by the ratings — the top-rated runner, Camden Cove at 100 (IRD), sits barely ahead of the trials brigade. Three runners are making their race debut today, and that spread says the market has real work to do.

Camden Cove shapes as the form leader. The five-year-old closed off late from the tail at Orange over this distance four weeks ago, finishing fourth, then backed up with a third at Goulburn over 1100 metres. Glenn Cahill in the saddle has decent history with W A Hudd's stable. The comment rates him a top performer on the card. However, there is a red flag: Hudd's stable runners are underperforming market odds by 53 per cent in recent form, and the trainer's long-term strike rate sits at just 5 per cent. Force Of Nature, drawn inside at barrier one, brings trial form from an astute stable. Two trial runs at Hawkesbury and Kembla Grange suggest the Shaun Guymer mount is ready to improve under race pressure. The dam won an 1400-metre maiden in New Zealand, which hints at pedigree support for the distance and class. Force Of Nature rates at 77 (IRD) — not far behind Camden Cove — yet sits at significantly longer odds.

Dartanu and Cat's Eye both trialled once and offer maiden appeal at odds. Jess Taylor partners Dartanu after a winning trial at Kembla Grange over 800 metres, but the jockey–trainer combination is losing 44 per cent of expected profit on turnover across their last 100 races, which is a sharp concern. Cat's Eye trialled encouragingly at Canberra over 900 metres and rates at 73 (IRD), though the market is signalling caution. Ellen Hennessy's current form sits 72 per cent below her career average. The value leans to Force Of Nature at the odds — form-rated close to the market favourite yet priced wider, drawn where it matters, and trained by a stable that backs its horses to improve.

Now 4 weeks between runs. Ex Bjorn Baker in NSW. Recent form solid. Closed off late from the tail at Orange over this distance. Top rater.

Jumped at $2.80 and edged past some when finishing 4th last run at Orange. Interesting gear change of blinkers off first time. Should come to hand quickly. Can highly recommend.

Without a win in three attempts although has finished third; ran a bit below expectations (sent off 9-5) when fourth at Orange last month; first run for trainer.
