The Hobart action gets underway at 10:28 am AEDT with the Graham Family Funerals (Bm68) over 2200m on a Good 4 surface under overcast skies. Looking at the early win market order, Johnnie Pinch holds the mantle as the shortest runner, closely followed by Native Clan in second, Regal Hunter in third, and Happy Clan rounding out the quartet as the outsider of the field.

The case for the market leaders rests on some honest recent staying efforts. Johnnie Pinch is steered by Sam Kennedy for trainer J L Keys from barrier 1, carrying 56kg. This runner battled home into third over 2150m at Launceston last start and brings good tactical speed and stamina. Stablemate Native Clan jumps from barrier 3 with Erica Byrne Burke aboard, also on 56kg, coming off a solid second in a staggered finish at Launceston over 2150m where it recorded the fastest overall finishing sectionals.
